Course Work Finally Starts
Following several months of delay for licence applications from Natural England to search for Great Crested Newts, ground work has started restructure of Fairfield Golf & Sailing Club. United Utilities is funding the project as part of the Fairfield mixed use planning application
.
They have appointed course designer and golf professional Andrew Murray to oversee the development and Souter Sports Ltd are appointed as the main contractor. Project manger, Todd Jerome, Said “The delay in starting has reduced the work program from 26 weeks to 15 which will be a tough order to complete on time and on budget. We are at the mercy of the weather and there could be delays if we trap a lot of Great Crusted Newts.”
Newt fencing has been erected this week on the new clubhouse site and the existing 9th hole and trapping will continue for 30 days before work can start in this area. Amec Environmental are in charge of all ecology issues consultant Dr Kevin Hume said “Every effort if being made to protect endangered species and to ensure that a better habitat is created for them to flourish.
